Lady Pirates lost to Shelbyville 39-40 and won against Wells 48-8.

From Cindy Nichols, Family Consumer Science - 

  • FCS Principles class learned about Teamwork & Collaboration during the Marshmallow Challenge.
FCS Child Dev class learned about genetics and hereditary traits and created DNA Dogs!


From Michelle Adams, High School Math - 

  • Algebra 1 students measured each other’s height and wingspan, plotted the points on a graph and found an equation of the line that could predict the wingspan of a person with a given height. 
From Anita Boulware, Secondary Art and district G/T Teacher - 


  • Sixth grade art classes are working on Christmas projects.  Art I, II, II, and IV students are working on clay projects and rock paintings!

Recent:

Lady Pirates opened district 22-AA play with win over Joaquin, 48-32. Lady Pirates also finished second in the Zavalla Basketball Tournament. Lady Pirates defeated Warren, 57-25, to advanced to championship against Central. They continue district play Tuesday, December 11th, against Shelbyville at home.

The Pirates finished as consolation champions in the Zavalla Tournament, defeating Hemphill, 57-39. Pirates host Alto this Tuesday and travel to Lovelady Friday, December 14th (JVB, VB).

From the Captain- Week of December 3, 2018

We enjoyed a great start back to school from the Thanksgiving break. From elementary to high school, we are working towards success. 
Be sure to check back for photos of holiday artwork from our students as well. 

Last week we hosted a varsity Girls’ basketball game, particpated in the Parade of Lights in Nacogdoches (Pirate Cheer), held our monthly fire drill and won first place at state FFA Radio competition.

Recent: 

Saturday, December 1, 2018 -
In Texas there were over 600 teams that competed at the district level for FFA Broadcasting, the top two from each district moved on to the area contests. Between the 12 areas in the state, the top two teams moved on to the Texas FFA State Contest. Saturday it was narrowed down to the top 10 teams in the State of Texas. These are 1A-6A schools competing against each other. Martinsville girls finished first place in the State of Texas.

On Monday, November 5th, volunteers from the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce presented their “Great Expectations” program to Martinsville 8th graders. The program is intended to get students to begin thinking about their future plans and the impact of high school decisions can have on their future. 

District counselor, Roni Waller, also hosted a Pre-ASVAB meeting for students interested in receiving more information regarding the ASVAB.  

Ms. Liz’s Thanksgiving Lunch was a success. We had many visitors for the lunch. 

On Wednesday, November 7th, former Martinsville Spanish teacher, Armando Palomino, now a recruiter for Angelina College, presented seniors with information about programs and scholarships offered through Angelina College. 

Thursday, November 8th, Mrs. Parrish and Coach Butler took juniors and theater students to watch the play “Oklahoma!” At the SFASU Theatre.

On November 1st, we hosted “Meet the Pirates” and enjoyed a great evening with the community. Our elementary students who participated in the Mini-Cheer Camp performed and did a great job! Coaches introduced their junior high and high school players and the fans enjoyed an exhibition of skills from both boys and girls squads. Pirate Cheer sponsor, Mrs. Stephnie Helton, introduced her cheer squad for the 2018-2019 year as they performed routines and a exciting dance routine. Coach Enloe also recognized our state cross country qualifiers who will be competing in Round Rock, November 3rd. Good luck to our Pirates!

  • Oct. 30th -The first Greenhand member that says The FFA Creed from start to finish each year, receives a FFA jacket paid for by the Ag Department. These three students said The FFA Creed start to finish without missing a word on the same day! Congrats to Mason, Ashton, and Caleb! 
  • Oct. 30th - Mrs. Nichols’s Family Consumer Science classes attended SFA’s Culinary Kitchen. Mrs. Nichols now offers a culinary course at MISD.
